The RDB said its chief executive, Jean-Guy Afrika, met with a Boeing delegation led by Amine Benkirane, marketing director for commercial aircraft in Africa and the Middle East, on May 26 to discuss aviation, logistics, and opportunities to support Rwanda’s regional connectivity and growth ambitions.
"The engagement also explored developments in aircraft financing, cargo operations, export market connectivity, and opportunities to further position Rwanda as a regional aviation and tourism hub," the RDB said in a statement on social media.
The discussions come as Rwanda seeks to expand air connectivity in support of trade, tourism, and investment, while positioning itself as a regional passenger and freight gateway, the Rwandan daily The New Times reported. Cargo demand has increased, with RwandAir (WB, Kigali) transporting 6,113 tonnes in 2024, up from 4,595 tonnes in 2023.
Under Rwanda’s Transport Sector Strategic Plan 2024-2029, RwandAir aims to more than double passenger numbers to over 2.1 million by 2028/29 through fleet expansion, network growth, and partnerships.
A Boeing spokesperson said the manufacturer had nothing to add, when approached for comment.
