The fighting in eastern DRC has undergone a marked transformation in recent months, with armed drones playing an increasingly prominent role in military operations. The changing nature of the conflict has drawn growing international attention, prompting Russia—alongside other partners of the DRC—to express concern as hostilities continue across the region.
Speaking during a United Nations Security Council briefing on the security situation in eastern DRC, Russia’s Chargé d’Affaires to the United Nations, Anna Evstigneeva, said the increased use of drone warfare and the reported involvement of foreign personnel were worsening the humanitarian consequences of the conflict.
She warned that civilians continue to bear the brunt of the violence and face mounting risks as the fighting becomes more sophisticated and destructive.
