FORMER EMIR OF QATAR SHEIKH HAMAD BIN KHALIFA AL THANI DIES
The former ruler served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 until 2013, when he abdicated in favour of his son, the current Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Rwandan President Paul Kagame have sent messages of condolence to Qatar following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

In his message, Kagame expressed sympathy to Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the ruling family and the people of Qatar, describing the late former Emir as a transformative leader.
“My deepest condolences to my brother, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his family and the people of Qatar on the passing of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” Kagame said.
The Rwandan leader praised Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for his role in shaping modern Qatar.
“His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani will be remembered as a visionary leader who transformed Qatar into the remarkable nation it is today. His legacy of service to his people and commitment to friendship and cooperation among nations will endure for generations.”
Kagame added that Rwanda stood with Qatar during the period of mourning.
“At this difficult time, the people of Rwanda and I stand with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and our Qatari brothers and sisters.”
The late former Emir of Qatar will be remembered for his significant contribution to the socio-economic development of Qatar and his critical role in advancing women’s empowerment, especially their enfranchisement.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 until 2013, when he handed over power to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. He is widely credited with overseeing Qatar’s rapid economic transformation and raising its international profile.
