RWANDA – JAMAICA : Kingston to welcome Rwanda’s President on Wednesday

President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, is expected to arrive in Jamaica on Wednesday for a State Visit.

President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, is expected to arrive in Jamaica on Wednesday for a State Visit.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Kagame’s visit is of special significance as it takes place during Jamaica’s diamond jubilee. He is expected to be in the island over the period April 13-15, 2022.

« The visit represents an important opportunity for the deepening of the bilateral relationship between Jamaica and the Republic of Rwanda, and reinforces the steadily burgeoning relationship between the African continent and the CARICOM region," the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said in a release.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness extended the invitation to Kagame two years ago, but the visit was delayed by the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, OPM said.
Kagame’s visit comes on the heels of a visit by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and his wife Kate, who were in Jamaica last month.

Some days ago, Ambassador Claver Gatete has presented his letters of credence to Patrick Allen, the Governor-General of Jamaica, appointing him as High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to Jamaica.

Shortly before presenting his credentials to the Governor-General, Ambassador Gatete had a brief meeting with Senator Kamina Johnson, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Jamaica. They exchanged on areas of bilateral cooperation such as sports, tourism and development.
