CARIBBEAN & RWANDA: Kagame in Trinidad and Tobago for 45th CARICOM Meeting

President Paul Kagame is in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, for the 45th Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), from July 3 to July 5, as the organization celebrates its 50th anniversary.

President Kagame is one of several high-profile leaders attending the 50th anniversary meeting including Prime Minister of South Korea Han Duck-soo, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China Hua Chunying.

This year, the Region celebrates 50 years since the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas and the accomplishments of CARICOM, which is revered as the oldest surviving integration movement in the developing world, it said.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who is making his first ever visit to Trinidad and Tobago, addressed CARICOM leaders on the final day of their 45th annual summit, telling them urged CARICOM countries to move beyond declarations of intent and look to solidify their relationship with Africa while focusing “on concrete initiatives which address the challenges that nations like ours face today”.
